Paraeducators are a critical team member providing assistance in instruction and other direct services to students to help ensure a positive, safe, and supportive learning community. Our success as an organization, and student's success as they prepare for life after high school, is highly influenced by paraprofessionals.

An RCEC Paraeducator generally assists the assigned students under the supervision and guidance of the teacher with:

Implementing modifications and supports defined in the student's Individual Education Program (IEP).
Instructional support.
Group and individual activities and projects.
Planning and organizing learning experiences.
Monitoring behavior, health, or physical needs of students.
Data collection and record-keeping.
Personal care and sanitary needs.
Timely and consistent communication and mobility assistance.

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT:

Assists in preparation, care and use of instructional materials and equipment.
Assists in maintaining good housekeeping standards.
Follows instructional strategies under the leadership of the teacher.
Assists in maintaining desirable behavior standards.
Assists in detecting any behavioral, health or physical deviations which warrant the attention of the teacher.
Assumes supervisory role during the teacher’s temporary absence.
Scores objective tests and papers and keeps appropriate records for the teacher.
Operates and cares for standard educational technology.

SUPPORT IN UNSTRUCTURED SPACES:

Assists with implementation of IEPs in the lunch room, playground and restroom.
Accompanies teacher on extracurricular trips and community work experiences.
Supports students in participation in games and with proper use of recreational equipment.
Assists with preparing instructional and art materials, copying, typing, charting, etc.
Assists children in transitions to and from the bus.
Assists with safe implementation of the crisis management plan in the assigned building.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE:

Assists with all assigned group and individual activities.
Supervises students moving in a safe, orderly manner from place to place.
Assists students with personal care and hygiene.
Assists students with physical disabilities in walking, using wheelchairs, and adaptive equipment.
Aids students in using assistive technology and educational equipment.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Assists with fire and tornado drill procedures.
